‘A drawing is simply a line going for a walk’

The abstract line drawing is the starting point for the exposition ‘Inbetween’. In their drawings HMX and Hesp are all about the rhythm, dynamics and the interaction between the lines that consciously and unconsciously lead to fascinating compositions. Line drawings that do not necessarily form something recognizable from reality, but often related to shapes in nature, architecture and noise in a landscape. In the process of creating the exhibition HMX and Hesp looked for a common visual language. They used a drawing technique called 'Inbetweening'. They draw in steps, towards each other, creating new lines, shapes and insights in the middle. They also used folding, puzzle, crease and cutting techniques to be surprised by the unexpected and to challenge themselves to explore new paths in their artmaking.
